While independent reports of casualties from the districts touched nearly 3200, State Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Secretary K. Lalnghinglova, said that the official figure had not crossed 3,000. Detailed reports were awaited from some villages in Mizoram-Myanmar border Champhai district and central Mizoram's Serchhip district.
Lalnghinglova said that 221 and 50 pigs have died in south Mizoram's Lunglei and Lawngtlai district where no fresh deaths have been reported over the last one week.
While no reports of swine deaths have been reported from Champhai and surrounding villages for the past few days, pigs continued to die in Bungzung village, southern part of the district which had so far claimed 57 swine and where two pigs each died yesterday and today.
At least 164 pigs have died in Serchhip district, mostly in Thenzawl and North Vanlaiphai villages, reports said.
