Questioning the fate of the Rs 500 crore fund that the West Bengal government had raised to provide relief to small and medium depositors of the Saradha chit fund schemes, Left Front chairman Biman Bose today demanded the state to publish a white paper on the fund.
Bose, also a Politburo member of the CPI(M), asked the CBI to pace up the investigation into the Saradha scam.
"The state government had raised a Rs 500 crore fund to provide relief to small and medium depositors of Saradha chit fund schemes. What happened to that money which was raised by imposing tax on cigarettes? The state government should publish a white paper on the amount that was raised and the amount that was given," Bose told reporters.
In April 2013, after the Saradha chit fund scam came to the fore, the West Bengal government had formed a Rs 500 crore relief fund for small and medium depositors of Saradha Chit Fund, who were duped.
Bose said the CBI should speed up its investigation in the Saradha scam. "The CBI is working at a snail's pace. They should speed up the investigation to unearth the larger conspiracy," he said.
Commenting on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's comments made yesterday that if the Centre wanted they could put her in jail and she doesn't care about it, Bose said "As the head of the administration, it is her duty to see that the duped investigators get back each and every penny.
