Puducherry govt official gets 3yr RI in bribery case

A court in Puducherry today sentenced a senior Agriculture department official to three years rigorous imprisonment for allegedly accepting Rs 2,000 bribe from a man to avail subsidy for constructing a tubewell and installing submersible pump-sets on his agricultural land.
Puducherry Principal District Judge C V Karthikeyan sentenced Agricultural Officer B Vasudevan to three years RI, an official release said.
The judge also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on him.
According to the case registered by CBI, Anti-Corruption Bureau, one G Viswanathan had given an application to Vasudevan to avail the subsidy for construction of tubewell and installation of submersible pump-sets on his farm land.
Vasudevan allegedly demanded the bribe to process the application, following which the man filed a complaint.
The official was apprehended by CBI while accepting the bribe in May, 2010.
