Puducherry to have Passport Seva Kendra soon

The Union Territory of Puducherry would soon have a passport seva kendra to cater to the needs of people here.
The Passport application form collection centre here would be converted into a passport seva centre in the next four months, Regional Passport Officer in Chennai C Senthil Pandian said in a release here.
External Affairs Ministry had initiated steps to open the kendra and Chief Minister N Rangasamy had also ordered handing over of the building housing the centre to passport office.
As many as 15,000 applications were received annually from Puducherry and Karaikal districts for passport. Presently applicants have to go to the passport office in Chennai for the documents, he said.

The Regional Passport Office held a passport service camp for two days from today, the first such event as part of its programme to extend outreach passport services at district level. Around 200 applications had been received at the camp office, which was inaugurated by the Chief Minister.
Once the seva centre came into being here, it would be able to have all the facilities except the printing of the passport, officials said.
