The Economic Offences Wing, probing the dubious advertisements by a builder firm promising 1 BHK flats at Rs 5 lakh, has sent a questionnaire to the state housing authority and Mission Directorate of 'Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana' seeking some details about the housing scheme.
The agency has also set up two teams to track down the CMD of Maple Group, Sachin Agarwal and other officials who are on the run since a cheating case was registered against them in connection with the 'misleading' advertisement.
"I cannot divulge the information we have sought, but we have sent a questionnaire to both the authorities (Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority and Mission Directorate of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana) and sought some information about the scheme," said EOW DCP Deepak Sakore.
The developer had used photos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Devendra Fadanavis and Pune Guardian Minister Girish Bapat in the ads of its low cost housing project titled Maharashtra Housing Day", giving impression that the project was associated with PMAY.
Sakore said two teams have been formed to trace Agarwal, group MD Naveen Agarwal and Sales Manager Priyanaka Agarwal who all are on run.
Police had registered a cheating case against the builder firm for giving "misleading" advertisements and allegedly cheating people.
Maple Group had already expressed its regret over the confusion caused by its advertisements and started returning deposits it had taken from people for the cheaper 1 BHK flats which it had promised on outskirts of the city.
