A head constable posted in police lines here was arrested on charges of consuming heroin, police said today. One gram heroin was also recovered from his possession, the official added.
Speaking to media persons, DSP Sarabjit Singh said head constable Manmohan Singh was arrested during routine checks here.
A police team spotted Manmohan consuming heroin in a car, the DSP said. Manmohan tried to flee the spot but the police team nabbed.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused said he was a drug addict, who had been consuming narcotics for the last two years.
A case under relevant sections of NDPS Act was registered against the accused, police said. SSP Satinder Singh said Manohan was suspended from duties.
Meanwhile, Kapurthala police recovered 110 kilogram of poppy husk from a truck and a car here. Truck owner Jaswant Singh Bittu and car occupants Kuljit Singh and Lakhbir Singh were arrested.
