Punjab government today approved setting up of five Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) and sanctioned Rs 36.40 crore in this regard.
It is proposed to open new ITIs at Gurdaspur, Ludhiana, Roop Nagar, Ajitgarh (Mohali) and Fatehgarh Sahib, an official spokesperson said.
The capacity of each ITI would be around 400-500 and there would be 20 trades for skill development which would be taught at these institutions, he added.
Around 3-5 acres of land would be required for the buildings to be constructed and that land shall be provided by the Panchayat or Municipal Corporations. The recurring expenditure regarding the opening of these 5 new ITIs will be met by the state government, he said.
The spokesperson further said in the existing ITIs, new emerging technology trades like computer hardware, auto electrician, fashion technology, consumer electronics and driver-cum-mechanic shall be started.
