The Punjab School Education Board had stopped annual examination system of V and VIII class after the Right To Education (RTE) Act was implemented which allows all children to be promoted to next class till ninth standard.
Cheema said that Punjab government had taken up the issue with the Union Human Resource Ministry and pleaded to restart the annual examination.
He, however, said that even if the Centre would not amend the RTE provision, Punjab would go ahead with evaluation system of students so that their performance is known to teachers.
The Minister said that he had asked the education department to prepare a proposal for evaluation system to be adopted.
Cheema said that regular evaluation of students would also improve performance of teachers.
