With an aim to provide affordable housing to people, Punjab government has decided to frame a policy for the mega housing projects in state.
This was announced today by an official spokesperson of the town and country planning department.
He said the policy will incorporate provisions whereby maximum permissible area for group housing in a project, where it is proposed as a part of plotted development, will not exceed 20 per cent of the total area of the project.
This condition, however, will not be applicable for the projects which fall in the mixed land use zone of master plan.
This implies that if more than 20 per cent area of the project falls within mixed land use zone, the promoter cannot use the entire area under mixed land use zone for group housing, the official said.
In case promoter proposes more than 20 per cent area of the project under group housing, the entire additional area will be counted as saleable area of the total project, he said.
The area under group housing will be considered as a part of the total area of the project for fulfilment of the area norms.
The area under group housing in mixed development project may be allowed in more than one pocket. However, the area of each pocket shall not be less than 5 acre.
