Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri today launched the modernisation of the Government Press which is estimated to cost about Rs 340 crore.
Established in 1931, the Press at Minto Road caters to the printing needs of both the Houses of Parliament during session. Important gazette notifications, ordinances and budget related materials are also printed there.
"Modernisation and upgradation is necessary to keep up with changing times. In this process, the project to modernise the Government of India Press located at Minto Road has been taken up," an official release quoted Puri as saying.
Press has been proposed to be modernised with state of the art technology and machineries after it is re-developed by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD). It is scheduled to be ready by 2020.
The sanctioned cost of the total project is Rs 338.56 crore, out of which Rs 100 crore has been earmarked for plant and machineries, the release said.
