The Consortium of Autonomous Management Institutions today condemned the harassment of Kashmiri students at a private university here, and appealed to all colleges to ensure extra safety measures for them.
"The recent incident shows that trust between Kashmiri and local students has declined. College managements need to bridge the trust... They should also ensure extra safety measures," consortium president D K Garg said.
"Further we have appealed to all students studying at various colleges not to look at Kashmiri students with suspicion. Kashmir is integral part of India and Kashmiri students are their brothers," he added.
Three Kashmiri students of Nodia International University had alleged that fellow students misbehaved with them and forced them to shout anti-Pakistan slogans.
"...Kashmiri students have been studying at various colleges since over a decade and no clash was witnessed. Other students suspicion started from a incident at one college where some Kashmiri students had shouted pro-Pakistan slogans during a cricket match and that had led to a clash between two students groups," Garg said.
He was referring to the expulsion of over 60 students of Swami Vivekananda Subharti University in Meerut from the hostel two months ago after they had supported Pakistan cricket team against India in an Asia Cup match.
Meanwhile, a three-member team headed by Jammu and Kashmir principal resident commissioner in Delhi Lokesh Kumar Jha had visited the university yesterday and talked to students and college managements on the issue.
"The delegation was satisfied with the action taken by the university and administration. We have expelled two students," said Vikram Singh, vice-chancellor of Nodia International University. Additional police force has also been deployed near colleges to prevent student clash.
