"Wheat exports from India are 2.5 million tonnes... Till January 2015 in the current financial year on private account against a total quantity of 2.9 million tonnes exported during the year 2013-14," Paswan said in Lok Sabha.
The minister said that estimated global wheat production for 2013-14 is 713 million tonnes compared to 655 million tonnes in the previous year.
India has produced 95.85 million tonnes of wheat during 2013-14 against 93.51 million tonnes in 2012-13, Paswan said, adding that global prices of wheat have shown a downward trend during the current year.
It indicates surplus stock of 133.47 lakh tonnes of foodgrains in the country, and the surplus stock can be offloaded through open sale in domestic market or through exports.
