The Thane district court has sentenced a junior clerk at the office of the Superintendent Engineer of the Public Works Department in Navi Mumbai to one year's imprisonment for accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.
District judge M M Walimohammad convicted and sentenced the accused Suresh Dharma Sonawane in an order passed two days ago.
Additional public prosecutor Hemlata Deshmukh said that in August 2006 Sonawane had demanded the bribe from a person for renewal of licence.
The anti-corruption bureau laid a trap and arrested him while taking the money.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on him.
