Actor-singer Queen Latifah said she wants to adopt as she believes being a parent is the most unselfish thing to do.

The 47-year-old actor said one does not have to give birth to a child to become a parent, what matters is that one gets a home, reported People magazine.

"I definitely want to adopt... You see these wonderful kids who need homes and I gravitate towards that. So I don't feel the need to have to have a baby. To me it's the most unselfish thing to do to be a parent.

"It's not about you at all. It's about what you can give and support to growing into adulthood. It doesn't matter if it's a baby, a toddler or even a teenager for as long as they feel they have a home," Latifah said.

The "Girls Trip" actor added she has always imagined that she will have a big family.

"I've always envisioned myself with a big family. I'm a late bloomer with a lot of things. Nobody's perfect. I'm an overachiever in some ways...

"I think I kinda needed to grow and mature and get everything kind of taken care of before I as really able to deal with it," she said.
