Several villagers had a narrow escape after their raft broke mid-creek on Monday in Thane's Shahapur area while they were on their way to vote in the Maharashtra Assembly polls, civic disaster cell officials said.

The incident happened in Aghai village and fishermen jumped in and rescued all 95 people on the raft, an official said.

Further details about the incident are awaited though there was no loss of life, he added.

Aghai village is some 40 kilometres away from Shahapur tehsil office and 75 kilometres from Thane headquarters.
