A deaf and mute Indian woman stuck in Pakistan for more than a decade might be reunited with her family as Indian envoy in the country is likely to meet her to resolve the issue.
According to sources in the Edhi welfare trust shelter in Karachi's Mithadar area where 23-year-old girl Geeta lives, High Commissioner TCA Raghavan and his wife are expected to visit the shelter home tomorrow or Wednesday to meet her.
A full delegation from the Indian High Commission is expected to reach here with the cooperation of the foreign ministry to look into her plea to be returned home and reunited with her family, one source said.
The development came after External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted that she had directed the Indian High Commission in Islamabad to meet with the girl and resolve the issue.
Geeta is believed to have mistakenly crossed into Pakistani territory as a child.
Geeta has got a fresh lease of hope mainly due to the runaway success of the Salman Khan-starrer 'Bhajrangi Bhaijan'.
Salman's movie revolves around a speech-impaired girl from Pakistan who finds herself lost in India with no way to return her home. An Indian man undertakes the task and reunites her with her family in Pakistan.
Pakistan's largest media group the Geo Television Network has started a campaign to reunite Geeta with her family.
Noted television evangelist Dr Aamir Liaquat has appeared on Geo TV and said that he will help Geeta find her family and return home.
