Congress Vice-president Rahul Gandhi today met a group of aggrieved home buyers of the city and assured them of help in raising the issue at the appropriate forums.
"I met the home buyers. They had met me in Delhi and some said that I should meet them here also, so I met them. They have an important issue that is very similar to the issue I had been raising regarding land acquisition, which is just for a different section of the society, but the issue is the same," Gandhi told reporters after a brief meeting with the home buyers representatives.
"They have committed certain things and as citizens they have certain rights and that is what we discussed," he said.
Senior congress leader R P N Singh who accompanied Gandhi said, "We are not here for politics. We'll help raise the issue of jute and home buyers in the state Assembly and even in Parliament as the Bengal government is doing nothing for them."
There were representatives from Kolkata West International City (KWIC), Tin Kanya, Kolkata West Heights, Ananda Dhara at the meeting.
Abhyay Upadhayay of KWIC alleged that the promoter had duped the home buyers and inaction of the state for protecting the buyers was an indication that even Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) was involved in this.
Rai Barua of Tin Kanya project at Rajarhat, corroborating the view said home was another 'Saradha' in the state as even defaulters of joint sector companies continue to raise funds not meeting their earlier commitments.
