Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh today said Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's remarks on the Ordinance on convicted lawmakers was a drama enacted to save his party from further damage.
It was a pre-planned damage control exercise which had blessings of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, he told reporters here.
"Rahul enacted the drama to save the Congress from further damage. The party's popularity graph has touched rock bottom due to rampant corruption during the UPA regime," Singh said.
"Why Rahul remained silent when the Ordinance was discussed at the party fora and at the Cabinet," he said.
On the Ram Temple issue, Singh said it was related to people's faith, adding "I don't want to politicise the issue."
The former Chief Minister attributed the recent riots in Muzaffarnagar to what he alleged the minority appeasement policy pursued by the Samajwadi Party government in UP.
On BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, he said "no leader is as popular as the Gujarat Chief Minister".
