Rahul should be active on social media to counter BJP: Singh

Accusing the ruling BJP of indulging in "misinformation campaign" against Rahul Gandhi, senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh today urged the party Vice President to get active on the social media to counter the opposition and also to remain connected with the youth.
"BJP has been deploying professionals to corner Rahul and its other political enemies by indulging in misinformation campaign for a long time. That is why I always tell Rahul to get active on the social media and give a fitting reply to them," Singh told reporters here.
According to him, Rahul does not have a Facebook or Twitter account as of now. "But he should open an official account on the two social networking sites in view of its popularity among the youths," the Congress General Secretary said.

When asked, Singh denied that some senior Congress leaders had expressed doubts on Rahul's ability to lead the party in view of his possible elevation as President.
"Sonia Gandhi is the President of the Congress party. If she and the Congress Working Committee (CWC) decide to make Rahul as the President, then all leaders of the party will accept it," he said.
The Congress veteran alleged that during Rahul's recent 56-day sabbatical, BJP leaders indulged in "misinformation campaign" by questioning his absence.

"But the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister were aware about his whereabouts as Rahul is a Special Protection Group (SPG) protectee," he said.

"But now although Rahul is back from leave and touring different parts to meet farmers, even then the BJP leaders have problems with it," Singh said.
Referring to Rahul's padyatra in Amravati district in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra today, Singh said the Congress Vice President would also tour parts of Telangana and Madhya Pradesh, where farmers have allegedly committed suicide.
Commenting on Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's visits to agriculture mandis (markets) in the state following unseasonal rains and hailstorms, Singh said Chouhan is following Rahul on the issue.
"Despite Chouhan's tours in the affected areas, farmers' woes are far from over and their entire produce is not being purchased," Singh said.
