"This visit is nothing but sheer hypocrisy on his part as the Gandhi family, right from Rajiv to Sonia to Rahul have been protecting the perpetrators of 1984 riots besides targeting and discriminating with Punjabis for decades," BJP National Secretary Tarun Chugh said here.
"When did Rahul and for that matter Congress turn sympathisers of the Sikhs?," he asked.
Rahul Gandhi, on a two-day visit to the state, today hit out at the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal, saying only Akalis are prospering in Punjab and stressed the Congress is united in the state as he along with two feuding state leaders met the families of the two youth killed in police firing at Faridkot.
"We know that Congress is struggling to find ground across the country but stooping so low? Using the killing of two Sikhs as a political tool cannot be appreciated in any manner," he said.
Terming Rahul's Punjab visit as "political tourism", Chugh said before coming to Punjab to show such magnanimity and human feelings, the Gandhi scion should have gone and met the families of Sikhs killed during 1984 riots right under the nose of the then Congress government.
