Rahul to meet Cong MLAs from Punjab

With internal bickering threatening party prospects in Punjab, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi has called all party MLAs from the state for talks and seek their opinion on the leadership row in the state.
Former Chief Minster Amarinder Singh has been at loggerheads with PCC chief Pratap Singh Bajwa and is seeking his ouster. Congress wants to resolve the issue amicably as it is affecting the party prospects.
Rahul will meet them separately over the next two days and seek their opinion on how to counter the Akali-BJP combine in the wake of changing political scenario in the state. Congress MLAs have been called to meet Rahul in an alphabetical order.

Congress leaders feel that the state party leaders instead of fighting amongst themselves must unite to consolidate the party's position in the state and reach out to the common man to highlight the "mis-governance" and corruption in the SAD-BJP regime and help bring the party to power in the next elections.
Both Singh and Bajwa have already met the Congress top brass and complained against each other, with the former demanding the ouster of the PCC chief.
Punjab goes to polls in early 2017. Congress has lost two consecutive assembly elections to the ruling combine.

Bajwa had earlier met Gandhi on January 15 and and put forth his side of the story to the party leadership.

He had also given a detailed account of the activities undertaken by him in strengthening the party and taking on the Akali-BJP combine in the state over issues like drugs, corruption and law and order. He had also apprised the high command about the open revolt by Amarinder.
He also told Rahul about the absence of Amarinder and his supporters at the Congress political congregation at Maghi mela in Muktsar.
The next day, former Punjab Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal had met Gandhi and pressed for early resolution of the feud in the state unit.
Bhattal had also favoured sending a fact-finding mission of party observers to resolve the internal rumblings and bring an end to the factionalism that may cost the party dear in the upcoming elections.
