In order to check the distribution of spurious pesticides and black-marketing of fertilizers in Kashmir, authorities today conducted raids in various godowns in four districts and booked dealers in this connection.
Law Enforcement wing of the Agriculture Department carried out raids on various godowns in Kulgam, Pulwama, Baramulla, and Shopian districts and booked several persticide and fertilizer dealers for violating laws concerning their trade, an official spokesperson said.
This was done to check the menace of distribution of spurious and misbranded pesticides and to control black marketing of fertilizers in Kashmir, he said.
Law Enforcement Inspector in Pulwama booked Qureshi Agro Chemicals at Shadimarg, Manzoor Ahmad Dar at Drubgam and Mushtaq Enterprises at Noorpora for carrying out their business in contravention of Insecticides Act, 1968 and a huge quantity of pesticides were seized from these dealers.
"The Law Enforcement Inspector in Kulgam booked 10 dealers for the above mentioned offences and they were stopped from selling a huge quantity of stocks of pesticides," he said.
Law Enforcement Inspector in Baramulla has recommended suspension of Insecticides License of six dealers who were running their business in contravention of Insecticides Act, 1968.
The concerned official in Shopian district lodged an FIR against Arshid Ahmad Malik for violation of Fertilizer Control Order, 1985, the spokesperson said.
He said raids are going to continue in coming days in all districts of the Valley.
"Deputy Director Law Enforcement Kashmir has advised Orchardists and farmers to ask for cash memo from the dealers while purchasing pesticides, fertilizers and seeds," he added.
