'Railways received 30,000 security complaints in last 3 years'

The railways received about 30,000 complaints related to security in the last three years, the Lok Sabha was informed today.
Minister of State for Railways, Rajen Gohain, in a written reply to the Lower House, said that a total of 29,906 security-related complaints were received at Security Helpline numbers- 182 and 1800-111- 322, from 2014 to June, 2017.
"It is pertinent to mention that strengthening and up-gradation of security infrastructure is an ongoing process. All out efforts are being made by the railways to supplement efforts of states to improve security at railway station premises, including those identified as 'sensitive' under the Integrated Security System (ISS)," he said.
The minister mentioned that based on the report of a high level committee, 202 stations have been identified as 'sensitive' for the purpose of installation of ISS to strengthen surveillance mechanism at these stations.
The Integrated Security System comprises close circuit television (CCTV) cameras, access control, personal and baggage screening system, and bomb detection and disposal system.
A total of 102 stations have been covered with CCTV surveillance system under ISS. In addition, 151 baggage scanners, 32 under vehicle scanning system (UVSS) and 88 bomb detection units have been provided under the security system, Gohain added.
