While the number of pilgrims expected to be about 50 millions during the month long fair, railways has geared up to carry 50 lakh pilgrims to Ujjain from all over the country.
Expecting the influx of pilgrims, the Ujjain station with eight platforms has been developed at an estimated cost Rs 27 crore.
The station has been developed in collaboration with the state government, said a senior Railway Ministry official.
Started from April 22, the fair at the banks of the river Kshipra will continue till May 21.
It is believed that taking a dip in the river Kshipra on the auspicious occasion purifies the soul and overcomes all the sins.
Keeping the heavy rush in mind, circulating areas, waiting areas, number of foot over bridge have been increased at the station.
While 119 CCTV have been installed, water storage capacity has also been increased for more passengers expected during the fair.
Additional resources have been mobilised to ensure proper upkeep of coaches deployed in trains catering to Simhastha Kumbh Mela.
