Rain activity may drop marginally in Maharashtra on Aug 1-2

Rainfall activity is likely to reduce marginally in Maharashtra for two days starting August 1, a meteorological department official said on Tuesday.

The monsoon will again be active by this weekend, he said.

Anupam Kashyapi, head (weather), Indian Meteorological Department, said rainfall activity will reduce marginally in the state on August 1 and 2.

"Due to a low pressure belt formed in the Bay of Bengal, monsoon will again be active from August 3 and it will remain active for three to four days," he added.

As far as Pune is concerned, the city on an average receives 545.7 mm rainfall in the monsoon months - June to September, he said.

"However, the city has already received 561.8 mm rainfall till Tuesday (July 30). That means it has already received four months' quota (in just June and July)," Kashyapi added.

He said 13,981 cusec of water was released from the Khadakwasla dam due to good rainfall in its catchment area. The dam is one of the four supplying water to Pune city.
