Rains and dust storms lashed the national capital today, giving the much needed respite to Delhiites from scorching heat.
According to Meteorological department, mercury dropped by as much as 10.2 degrees after the spell of rain which lasted around 45 minutes. Temperature was recorded at 37.8 degree Celsius at 5:30 PM which dropped down to 27.8 deg C at 6:30 PM.
However, the showers also caused trouble as many parts of the city witnessed water-logging and traffic snarls including Laxmi Nagar, ITO, Kashmere Gate, Munirka, Dwarka and Dhaula Kuan. Commuters, especially people returning from offices were caught off guard due to the downpour.
Earlier, it was hot and sultry throughout the day as mercury rose to 39.8 deg C which was four degrees above normal and 2.7 degrees up from yesterday's 37.1 deg C.
Minimum temperature too was registered one notch above normal at 28.5 deg C, significantly up from previous day's 25.9 deg C.
Humidity remained between 83 and 40 per cent respectively.
The MeT office has predicted generally cloudy sky tomorrow with possibility of rain and thundershowers in some areas. Maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be at 37 and 28 deg C respectively.
