Rain brings respite from heat in UP

Light to moderate rains accompanied by thundershowers today gave respite from heat to people in Uttar Pradesh even as mercury fell markedly in parts of the state.
According to MeT office, the chief amount of rainfall recorded in cms was Basti, Muzzaffarnagar 9 each, Khalalibad 8, Gorakhpur, Harriya 7 each, Turtipar 6 and Katerniaghat, Birdghat, Ayodhya 5 each.
The rainfall recorded in Deoband, Aonla, Thakurdwara, Salempur 4 mm each, Ghazipur, Ghosi, Nakud, Moradabad, Regoli 3 each, Bansgaon, Bansi, Kakardharighat, Utraula, Raebareli, Mohmadi, and Bareilly 2 mm each.
Day temperature fell markedly in Bareilly and Meerut division, fell appreciably in Lucknow division, fell in Kanpur, Moradabad, Agra divisions and changed little in the remaining divisions of the state.
It was markedly above normal in Allahabad, Kanpur, Jhansi divisions, appreciably above normal in Varanasi, Faizabad divisions, above normal in Lucknow, Moradabad, Agra divisions and was normal in the remaining divisions of the state.
The highest maximum temperature over the state was 42.5 degrees Celsius at Orai.
MeT office, in a forecast, said rain or thundershowers would occur at few places over the state during the next 24 hours.
