Rain lashes parts of HP, mercury rises during day

Several areas in mid and lower hills of Himachal Pradesh were lashed by heavy rains today while strong winds swept the higher hills but failed to bring down the mercury levels with Una recording the highest temperature of 38.2 degrees Celcius.
The temperature in Una was up by 5 notches from 33 degrees yesterday. Sundernagar recorded a maximum temperature of 33.0 degrees, followed by Nahan and Bhuntar at 32.0 degrees, Dharamsala 31.2 degrees, Solan 29.5 degrees, Shimla 25.3 degrees and Kalpa 20.0 degrees.
Bijahi was the wettest region with 32 mm rains whileGuler experienced 27 mm rains, followed by Sujanpur and Tira 16mm, Saloni 15 mm, Karsog 13 mm, Gohar, Bharmaur andKumarsain 11 mm, Bangana 10 mm and Nagrota Surian, Sarahan and Pandoh 9 mm.
However, the minimum temperatures dropped in tribal areas and higher hills and Keylong was the coldest area in the region with a low of 4.0 degrees, three degrees below normal, followed by Manali 4.8 degrees , 5.4 notches below normal and Kalpa 5.0 degrees, 2.7 degrees below normal.
Bhuntar recorded a low of 12.0 degrees while Dalhousie and Shimla recorded minimum temperatures at 13.4 degrees, followed by Solan at 13.6 degrees, Palampur 13.7 degrees, Sundernagar 15.1 degrees, Dharamsala 16.2 degrees, Una 19.8 degrees and Nahan 20.7 degrees C.
The local MeT office has predicted dry weather in the state for the next two days. Rain and thundershowers will hit the low, mid and higher hills for three days from May 28 to May 31.
