While Palghar taluka was worst-hit in Palghar district, in neighbouring Thane district the Kalyan and Bhiwandi areas suffered the most.
A father and daughter were reportedly washed away in the floodwaters while crossing the Khamkhadi bridge on the Kelve Road. While the body of Ruchita Raut (16) was found, her father Dinesh Raut (50) was missing, the district disaster control room official said. Rauts were residents of Kelve Jasodi.
The educational institutions in the Palghar district were closed for the day as a precautionary measure. Those living low-lying areas have been shifted.
In Thane city incidents of wall collapse were reported. Bhushan Parab (22) of Dharamveer Nagar area drowned in the Upavan lake. The body had not been found yet.
