One more person succumbed to burn injuries as the death toll went up to 16 in the mishap yesterday in which a bus came into contact with a live electrical wire.
"Forty five-year-old Devkaran died in the morning today at the SMS hospital in Jaipur. With this, a total of 16 people have been killed in the accident," Additional SP Tonk Sunil Vishnoi said.
Fifteen persons, including eight minors, were killed and 26 others injured yesterday when the bus that was carrying a wedding party came into contact with a live wire in the Pahewar area of Tonk.
The wedding party was headed to the nearby Morla village, he said.
"It was an interior area through which heavy vehicles like buses and trucks normally do not pass.
"The electricity wires were loose and hanging low. The bus grazed the wires while passing from there and that led to the tragedy," he said.
"The groom was travelling in a separate vehicle and was not informed about the incident till late.
"The wedding rituals were performed in the presence of just a few people and the groom was informed thereafter about the incident," he said.
Meanwhile, the electricity department has suspended two engineers and a helper for negligence.
Assistant Engineer GN Soni, Junior Engineer Goverdhan Lal and Lineman Kailash Mali were suspended last night.
