With an aim to encourage parents on the birth of a girl child, Rajasthan's Nagaur District administration has taken 'Lado Rani' initiative distributing special kits and booklets, detailing all the schemes and programmes, at government hospitals.
An infection-free kit comprising diapers, clothes and booklet with details of 66 schemes listed under the central and the state governments will be distributed after a girl child is born in any of the government hospitals in Nagaur, one of the biggest districts in Rajasthan.
Along with the special kit, the district administration will also distribute printed message of Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, congratulating parents on the birth of girl child.
"The booklet is a unique collection of schemes of both the Centre and Rajasthan government for girls. All the details of the schemes of various departments like social justice, education, labour, medical and health and others have been included in the booklet and will help the parents in nurturing the girl child in a better way," District Collector Rajan Vishal told PTI.
He said approximately 2,000 such kits will be distributed in the district in a month under the scheme launched by the district administration in collaboration with the pre- conception and pre-natal diagnostic techniques (PCPNDT) cell of the Medical department.
Of the total 45,634 institutional deliveries in government hospital and health centers in Nagaur in the year 2013-14, the number of girls born were 21,317.
"Despite the attempts to bring about an egalitarian social order, the prejudice for girl child continues, particularly in rural areas," he said.
Vishal said the private sector has also been approached and urged to play effective role in combating the challenge of declining sex ratio.
"We have asked companies working in the district to spend on this initiative (of distributing kits) under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities," he said.
Some social organisations, he said, have also come to support the initiative and they would be contributing in towns/area where they work.
According to him, besides the companies and social organisation, the newly elected Sarpanch, Pradhan and other public representatives have also been requested to actively participate in the programme.
