Raj, Haryana solve inter-state water-sharing, road issues

Rajasthan and Haryana governments today solved two inter-state issues related to water-sharing and road-widening in a North Zone Council standing committee meeting here.
The issues pertaining to constructing a cross regulator to stop back flow of water from Sirhind feeder and issuing of no objection certificate from forest department of Haryana government for widening of the road from Kasela Chowk to Khuskhera were resolved, a spokesperson said.
Check on trafficking of women and children, exchange of information on criminals, sharing of water and power, liquor smuggling were among other issues which were discussed in the meeting chaired by Rajasthan Chief Secretary C K Mathew and attended by Chief Secretaries and senior officers of seven states.
The draft of issues to be put up before the North Zone Council were also finalised in the meeting attended by the officials of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab besides Rajasthan.
Rajasthan in its agenda proposed amendment in the water (pollution control and prevention) Act, air (pollution control and prevention) Act and environment (conservation) Act.
The state also incorporated issues like control on prices of fertilisers, development of Khuskhera-Bhiwadi-Neemrana area under Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, long term coal block and gas linkage to Rajasthan.
There is a Zonal Council for each of the five zones of the country which are high level advisory forums and set up to create healthy inter-State and Centre-State environment with a view to solving inter-State problems and fostering balanced socio economic development of the respective zones.
