Rajasthan Transport Minister Yunus Khan today said his department had earned a revenue of Rs 3,625 crore in the last fiscal which was about 13 per cent more than its earnings in the 2015-16 financial year.
The revenue collection of the department for 2016-17 was Rs 3,625 crore, the highest in the last three fiscals. However, the department could not achieve the target of Rs 3,650 crore, he said at a press conference here.
"The growth in revenue collection is the highest since 2013-14," Khan said.
Highlighting achievements of the department, he said it has taken several initiatives, including the facility to issue driving licence to an applicant on the same day.
People can now apply for licence online and the department is providing driving licence and vehicle registration as smart cards, he said.
The department runs an intensive campaign for road safety and it has delivered satisfactory results. The total number of road accidents in the state have reduced from 24,072 in 2015 to 23,066 in 2016, Khan said.
The minister, who chairs the Empowered Group of State Transport Ministers, said the recommendations of the group have been included in the Central Road Transport and Safety Bill.
