Raj varsity directed to distribute pending degrees, medals

Rajasthan Education Minister K C Saraf today directed the University of Rajasthan (UoR) to ensure the distribution of pending 18 lakh degrees and 16,000 gold medals to the students in next three to four months.
Addressing the 69th Foundation Day of the varsity, Saraf said: "Over 18 lakh degrees, and 16,000 gold medals of qualifying students of Rajasthan varsity are yet not distributed since 1992. I request Vice Chancellor to take up this task to award degrees and medals to meritorious students in next three to four months."
"The distribution of pending degrees and medals be ensured within three to four months," Saraf said.
On the faculty shortage in the UoR, the Minister said the state government would extend its all support and contribution if vacancies were filled up.
With the upcoming universities in Bharatpur, Alwar and Dholpur, the load factor on UoR would be minimised as most of the affiliated colleges would be taken care by the new varsities, he said.
He announced that Rs 10 lakh per year would be given to the University of Rajasthan from his MLA fund for five years.
Thirty three meritorious students were given away gold medals jointly by Union Minister of State for Water Resource S L Jat, Rajasthan Ministers K C Saraf, Arun Chaturvedi and Rajpal Singh Shekhawat.
One of the meritorious student, Anil Kumar Singhal, received four gold medals in four degrees pending since 1999-2001.
Speaking on the occasion, Jat categorically stressed that degrees and gold medals should be given on time to the students as it encourages them.
A number of other speakers including Rajasthan Ministers Chaturvedi, Shekhawat, acting Vice-Chancellor Hanuman Singh Bhati said that UoR should get the status of Central University as it qualified all norms and standards not only in education but also in research.
