Rajasthan accounts for the second highest number of child marriages in the country and presents a dismal picture in mother and infant mortality rates, an UN expert said today.
Two out of every five married person in Rajasthan are below the age of 18, UNICEF Child Officer in the state Sanjay Nirala said at a workshop here.
Jharkhand has the dubious distinction of having the highest child marriage rate in India.
Nirala said indicators of mother mortality rate (MMR) and infant mortality rate (IMR) are also very dismal in Rajasthan which, he said, ranks third in terms of quality of education.
