Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje should resign following the BJP's rout in the recent bypolls held in Rajasthan, Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Rameshwar Dudi said today adding that the Congress would write off farmers' loans after coming back to power.
Dudi also said the results of the bypolls in Ajmer and Alwar Lok Sabha seats and the Mandalgarh Assembly seat showed that the "Modi factor" would not work.
Addressing a press conference ahead of the budget session that begins tomorrow, Dudi said his party will raise farmers' issues and mount pressure on the state government for a loan waiver.
"We will corner the government and mount pressure for the loan waiver. If the government does not write off the loans, the Congress will do so after forming the government," he said.
Dudi said Chief Minister Raje should step down on moral grounds after her party's disastrous show in the Ajmer and Alwar Lok Sabha and Mandalgarh Assembly seat bypolls. The Congress won all the three recent bypolls with handsome margins.
The Congress leader said his party would corner the Raje government on a range of issues including those related to the youth, employees and others. He said disappointment and resentment prevailed among people as they felt betrayed by the BJP government.
The farmers have not received crop damage compensation and they are also not getting timely water and electricity, which is leading to cases of suicide, Dudi said.
People have rejected the BJP and the defeat in the bypolls is a defeat of the chief minister, he said.
"The chief minister should resign on moral grounds as her government has lost the people's mandate. Youth are unemployed, employees are on the road and many deaths have occurred due to the strikes by doctors," Dudi said.
Dudi exuded confidence that the Congress will form the next government in the state. The present BJP government's corruption will be exposed once the Congress forms the next government, he said.
"Law and order is deteriorating and criminal activities are on the rise. There have been incidents of rape and women are feeling insecure," he alleged.
Dudi said Congress's victory in the bypolls reflected that no Modi factor would work. The results were a reply by the people to the chief minister's arrogance, he said.
