Home Minister Rajnath Singh today called up Director General of Maharashtra Police Satish Mathur and congratulated the force for its success during an encounter with Naxals, in which at least 16 ultras were killed, an official said.
During a telephonic conversation, the home minister appreciated the Maharashtra Police for the success against the Naxals in the state's Gadchiroli district, one of the worst Maoist-hit areas in the country.
Singh also praised the Maharashtra Police's efforts in tackling the Naxals in the state, the official said.
At least 16 Naxals were killed in an encounter with police commandos and CRPF personnel in Gadchiroli district in east Maharashtra yesterday.
