Terming the Naxal attack on CRPF personnel in Chhattisgarh in which 25 jawans were killed as a "cowardly" act, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said today the sacrifice of the brave soldiers would not go in vain.
"The Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh is a 'kayrana' (cowardly) attack... They put tribals in front (of them) as a shield due to which the security forces restrained themselves from opening fire and (they) then attacked the soldiers from behind," Singh said addressing a function here.
"Agar Maa ka dudh piya hota to amne-samne sainiko se mukabla karte (had they drunk their mothers' milk, they would have faced the soldiers head-on)," the Union home minister thundered.
"The sacrifice of the brave soldiers will not go in vain," he said.
Singh was here to attend a function to celebrate the birth anniversary of 1857 hero Veer Kunwar Singh who hailed from Bihar. The home minister had come here from Chhattisgarh.
The function was organised by BJP legislator Neeraj Singh Babloo at Patel ground in Saharsa.
Top BJP leaders of the state including Sushil Kumar Modi, Leader of Opposition Prem Kumar and state party chief Nityanand Rai too participated in the function.
On Pakistan, the home minister said India successfully conducted surgical strike on terrorist launch pads across the LoC.
Singh said he had "unmasked" Pakistan in front of the world during his recent visit to that country.
