In wake of the inconvenience faced by people after the demonetisation move, Rajya Sabha member K V P Ramachandra Rao today wrote to the NHRC, alleging that it amounted to the violation of human rights and urged the panel to intervene in the matter.

In his letter, the senior Congress leader said while there can't be two views on eradication of black money, the manner in which the Centre has gone about it has created a "deep insecurity" and confusion among people.

"I submit that the citizens of this country were shocked and panic-stricken after the demonetisation on November 8," he alleged.

Rao also made reference to the deaths of people reported in the country, while standing in queues at banks and ATMs.

In an appeal to the National Human Rights Commission, he urged it to intervene in the matter and suggest "RBI to provide separate queues for senior citizens, women and physically-handicapped at banks and ATMs."

He also made several other suggestions in this regard.
