The dawn-to-dusk Ranchi bandh,
called by various groups in protest against the rape and murder of a minor girl, was total even as one person was arrested in the case.
Educational institutes, shops, business establishments were closed at important bazaars and the traffic was thin on the main thoroughfares, official sources said.
The bandh was called to protest the rape and murder of a five-year-old girl whose body was found in an under-construction building near her home at Darjie Mohallah in the city on Thursday.
"Sadam Quereshi, who was detained yesterday, was arrested today in connection with the case," Superintendent of Police (City) Manoj Ratan said.
