The accused identified as Guddu Rajbhar was yesterday arrested for raping an eight-year-old girl in Sahroj village under Dakshin Tola police station area, following which he fled from the custody today, police said.
Demanding immediate arrest of the culprit and suspension of police station in-charge Suresh Misra, irate locals pelted stones and damaged vehicles, they said.
Eyewitnesses said that some police personnel were also injured in the incident.
Police force has been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward situation, police added.
