As the two police constables accused of gang-raping a teenage girl in a police station here remained elusive for the third day, Uttar Pradesh government today asked Special Task Force of state police to trace the duo and suspended two policemen of the station.
Additional Director General of Police (Crime) H S Awasthi said that the STF has been roped in as constables Veer Pal Singh Yadav and Avnish Yadav, both dismissed, were absconding after the crime on the new year eve.
SSP Santosh Kumar said that on the directive of ADG (Crime), night duty in-charge of the police station Himanshu Shukla and head constable Udayveer Singh have also been suspended.
Sub-inspector Sobharan Singh Yadav has been shunted to police lines, the SSP said.
IG, Law and Order, A Satish Ganesh told reporters yesterday that medical examination of the girl has confirmed the rape.
District Magistrate Shambhu Nath said a financial assistance of Rs five lakh was also given to the family members of the victim from the Chief Minister's fund.
Awasthi said that there was no criminal record against the two constables, though one them had been punished in the past for dereliction of duty.
The girl was allegedly abducted from her house on December 31 and gang-raped by the two constables in the police station premises prompting the authorities to terminate them and suspend the SHO.
An FIR was registered after the victim's mother lodged a complaint against the two policemen.
"The victim was taken to Musajhag police station and allegedly raped there," Superintendent of Police (City) Lallan Singh had said.
Narrating the incident the victim had said," At 8 PM I informed my mother and went for relieving myself. I saw a car there and two constables. They told me to come into the car and then took me away. They took me to a room in the police station where they assaulted me...They then dropped me to my village.
