With the start of Chardham pilgrimage season drawing near, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat today asked the Border Roads Organisation to finish all repair and reconstruction work on the yatra route paying special attention to identified landslide zones.
Steps should be taken to ensure that roads on Chardham yatra route do not remain blocked for long during the pilgrimage season starting in April this year, Rawat told BRO Director General Lt Gen R M Mittal who called on him here today.
Assuring him of all logistical support from the state government, Rawat said ensuring a trouble-free pilgrimage to devotees was his government's top priority.
The BRO DG informed the CM that the report of experts on the treatment of Lambagad slide zone has been received and work on it will soon begin.
He also urged Rawat to permit the BRO to quarry the river beds to extract necessary construction material for roads on the yatra route.
The chief minister asked the BRO DG to build a bypass in Uttarkashi and Bhatwari and accord top priority to the treatment of Berakuli and Lambagad landslide zones.
He also asked him to expedite the black-topping of the road from Joshimath to Badrinath.
Rawat also sought the BRO's helping hand to improve the traditional route going through the state to Mansarovar saying if the quality of roads on the route is enhanced, vehicular service for pilgrims can be commenced.
