Left wing activists today staged demonstrations in front of the new Police Commissioner's office here on arrival of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, in protest against the killing of CPI leader Govind Pansare.
Pansare, who was shot at on February 16 in Kolhapur along with wife, died last night in Mumbai.
The Chief Minister was in the city to inaugurate the new building of Police Commissionerate today.
Over 50 CPI protesters raised slogans 'CM go back' and 'Arrest killers of comrade Pansare' before arrival of Fadnavis at the Commissionerate, an officer at police control room said.
Police, in a bid to control the protesters, took them into preventive custody, he said, adding that they were later released.
Later, Fadnanis did the inauguration along with police Commissioner K K Sarangal and other officials.
During the tour, Fadnavis also attended a meeting at Trimbakeshwar, around 29 kms from here, to take stock of ongoing preparations for upcoming 'Simhastha Kumbh' to be held in Nashik this year.
