A real estate developer was shot at and seriously injured in Dumdum Park area in the north-eastern fringes of the city on Saturday.
Bidhannagar police commissionerate sources said two men came in a motorbike and fired at Sekhar Poddar, a small time real estate developer, before an under-construction high rise around 11 AM.
The assailants fled from the spot after firing.
Poddar, who was supervising work of the building, received three bullets on different parts of body and was taken to a nearby private hospital in a serious condition, the sources said.
Police were watching CCTV footage of the area and questioning eye-witnesses to know the identity of the gunmen.
Extortionists active in the Baguihati-Kestopur-New Town-Salt Lake belt could be behind the attack, the sources said.
