Realization of tax depends on IRS officers: Speaker

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan today said realization of various taxes in the country will depend on officers who are energetic, professional, trained and have the spirit to work.
Inaugurating the Appreciation Course in Parliamentary Processes and Procedures for Probationers of Indian Revenue Service (IRS), Mahajan said IRS is the main foundation of the taxation system in our country.
Noting that transparency and accountablity are two important aspects of public administration, the Speaker said IRS officers are equipped with judicial powers in matters of tax collection and deciding the sources of income and hence they should work with their teams with honesty, integrity and dedication.

She also underlined the need for the officers to have a knowledge of the functioning of all government departments and institutions especially the parliamentary system.
