The resignation of two of the newly-appointed secretaries took a new turn today with Chief minister Virbhadra Singh alleging that he did not ask for their resignation and these were tendered at the behest of HPCC chief.
"I did not ask for the resignation of secretaries Pradeep Verma and Kusum Verma and in fact HPCC chief asked for it and the outline of the resignations was made in HPCC office," Virbhadra singh said in an informal chat with media persons after attending a function at Ridge.
Asserting that he never questioned the competence or capability of the secretaries appointed by the HPCC chief, he said that the Block and District congress committees should have been taken into confidence while making the appointment of secretaries.
Singh said "I have been chief minister six times and remained HPCC chief five times but such controversies never cropped up and asking for resignation is wrong."
Earlier in the day, party secretaries Pradeep Verma and Kusum Verma, who hailed from Shimla(Rural) assembly constituency, met the Chief Minister at his residence and told him that they were hurt by his remarks and they had been dedicatedly working to strengthen the party formore than 25 years.
Chief Minister had recently raked up the issue of appointment of secretaries in large number by Sukku and said that these appointments were made without taking him, ministers, MLAs or Block and district Congress committee leaders into confidencethat irked the appointees and caused ripples in the party.
