Recession-hit market spurs the sale of curios

Recession-hit market has spurredd the market of small artifacts and helped the not-so-moneyed to acquire arty knickknacks, which goes easy on purse strings, eminent painter Elena Banik says.
Elena, who inspected the range of newly launched Call Buddy Couture products, said "Unline in past, the small art market has expanded and small time artisans are churning out products under the guidance of boutique owners.
Elena, having been trained in Kalabhavan, Shantiniketan, said artefacts, with abstract images embossed on the cover, may become the rage but that is mass-based art which also augurs well for the art market.
Gayatri Birla Agarwal, one of the leading city-based designers from a reputed business family, said, "Now small curios are inspired by great works of art."

Birla said danceuse Alakananda Ray was one of the patrons of her work of art but she also loved to be draped by her robes and her favourite color remains purple.
