Looking for the right fit, HR managers are increasingly turning to social media, which is proving to be a potent tool for recruiters as well as job seekers, says a report.
The report tracking the social media hiring trend and prepared by industry body Assocham said the interactive platform has emerged as an important route for hiring fresh talent by corporates which use the micro-blogging sites for background checks to judge the overall persona of candidates.
Around 68 per cent of the human resource managers looked into LinkedIn, Facebook or Twitter to get an idea about the candidate, it noted.
The social sites are also being used by job hunters who are becoming more conscious about their posts, pictures, academic and professional achievements uploaded online.
According to the report, as many as 80-85 per cent candidates seeking high-level jobs and 40-45 per cent looking for ones lower down the order are using the online medium to hardsell their professional and academic achievements.
The report is based on responses received from human resource (HR) personnel representing over 650 small, medium and large businesses from cities like Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Pune and Dehradun, among others.
The report focused on broad sectors such as BPO, IT/ITeS, financial and other services, construction, real estate, hospitality, tourism, FMCG and infrastructure, media and advertising, manufacturing and textiles, logistics and transport operators, among others.
