Kerala State Women's Commission today asked the Director General of Police to register a case against Congressman-turned-left activist Cherian Philip for his controversial remarks against women ticket-seekers in Congress.
The Commission asked the DGP to register a case under provisions of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act and order an inquiry into his remarks in a Facebook post against women party ticket-seekers in Congress last week.
"All members of the commission during today's sitting demanded action against Philip for his indecent remark," Commission Chairperson K C Rosakkutty told PTI here.
Philip has not removed the controversial facebook post, she pointed out.
CPI-M fellow traveller and media critic Philip had expressed regret after courting controversy over the remark. He had come under attack from several quarters including CPI-M politburo member Brinda Karat.
Karat had said in Delhi that to make a generalise statement against Congress women leaders in this way was "highly unfortunate and condemnable".
Women politicians, cutting across party lines, had demanded his apology.
Referring to a shirtless protest by Youth Congress workers, who were denied tickets for local body polls, as "model protest", Philip had said "all those women who had taken out similar protests clandestinely were alloted seats by Congress."
Philip, a former Congress activist and a close aide of senior Congress leader A K Antony, had left the party over differences with its leadership a few years ago.
